Over the years I have had many different sewing spaces from nothing, to a corner of the dining room with fabrics stashed under the bed ( and true to Murphy’s Law I would always need something when shift working hubby was asleep!!!) to whole rooms if the house we were renting at the time allowed.
2 years ago we embarked on building a house what a scary, exciting and exhausting journey that was! Thankfully we didn’t owner build though as I think we would be in a tent in the paddock still deciding !! One thing we both agreed on instantly was it must have a sewing room 😀 and it does. Its a beautiful room with a woindow facing the front paddock & its own entry door which is good when customers come to drop things off or pick things up.
It was furnished with a mish mash of reused/recycled furniture, trestle tables & a dining chair. All of which were OK but not ideal. Finally after being in our house for 18months I figured out what I wanted now I just needed hubby to help (aka DO). So with master plan in mind off we went to Bunnings & found the prefect timber for my benches only problem was no way of getting it home, but thats OK Dad owns a ute so a few days later wehn I was in town for work I swapped cars & bought the 2 lengths of timber needed. Sure did get some looks that morning as it was about 7.30am and Bunnings was full of tradies in their fluro work gear getting supplies, in I trot in skirt, heels & face full of makeup ready for my school officer job & buy timber! lol
So that weekend with the weather looking terrible
we set off to Bunnings again to get brackets, plugs, screws and other items deemed necessary by hubby. Then home to get stuck into it, only to have a better idea that resulted in more bench space & a second trip to Bunnings for the day. So what 2 trips you say, well each trip is a 110k round trip from home to Bunnings for us.
So without further ado here are some before and after shots of the sewing den. There is still more shelving to put up & now thanks to Better Homes & Gardens the wall with the fabric cupboards is going to get a makeover when the funds allow also hehehe.
Hubby contemplating what he has got himself into !
Thread rack he made me years ago which I just adore.
My cutting bench ❤
Looking from 1 doorway into the room
Now to find something to keep all the stuffing in
Its a dream come true really
Now this wall thanks to Better Homes & Gardens is next on the list
And seeing as the new benches are all really high so I no longer get a back or shoulder ache from hunching overhubby & the kids gave me this awesome chair for Mothers Day ❤
I am so in love with my sewing den & my hubby for doing such a wonderful job for me xxxxx
